Shoot from the Lip

Black on Transparent

Began in 2012, Shoot from the Lip is Warwick University’s largest poetry collective. It was founded and co-ordinated by Zena Agha is currently co-ordinated by Jack McGowan.

There are two branches of the project: 1. an annual poetry slam in Leamington Spa and 2. poetry workshops with young people in the surrounding area.

Slams: The collective runs an annual poetry slam in Leamington Spa, with four heats during the academic year and a Grand Slam in the summer held at the Zephyr Lounge. It’s free to compete and free to attend. Check out our Facebook page to find out details about the next heat.

Workshops: With funding from the Lord Rootes Memorial Fund, Shoot from the Lip has run a series of poetry workshops with young people aged 11 to 16 in the surrounding area, including Canley’s UFE youth club and Barr Beacon school in Walsall, Birmingham. The young people’s poems have been compiled into a 20-page booklet.
